Venue Description:

The Montpelier House Museum is a beautiful member of the U.S. National Register of Historic Places with a rich history of famous guests, including the founding father, George Washington himself. Located just 30 minutes from Washington, D.C., this massive plantation-style home offers both historic charm and picturesque surroundings that make it a prime destination for photographers.

In addition to photographing the massive plantation-style home, the outside of the property also contains elaborate courtyards, walkways, and forestry surrounding the mansion that offer their own photographic opportunities. Doorway and window shots are abundant from the outside as well.

After some time on the exterior, for a modest five-dollar entry fee, guests can enter the home and explore therein.

On the inside, you will find an array of historical textiles, furnishings, selections of kitchenware, fine instruments, and more from the late 18th to 19th century time period. The many rooms and hallways to explore provide a vast amount of photographic opportunities to take advantage of, such as compositional rules like the rule of thirds, symmetry, and lines. Add to that the vast array of textures to capture on camera, and you will see more than enough opportunities for people of all skill levels to help train their photographic eye.

Meeting Spot:

Meet just outside the entrance to the Montpelier House Museum ($5 entry fee to go inside the house, $4 for seniors).

Lots of people seem to hang up if our welcome recording comes on instead of a live voice, but we promise to return your message within a day or two if you leave one with your name and number.  It would be even better if you included your e mail address as well as the date and city of the class you are considering.  If leaving a voice mail message is not your thing, please email us at [email protected].
