Welcome to the Cleveland market for the international network of live and online photo classes, all under the banner of Digital Photo Academy.

This section is devoted to our Cleveland photo workshops. The DPA Instructors who lead these workshops are professional photographers who have lived in Cleveland for at least 10 years, usually longer.

These pro shooters also have teaching experience and they love teaching. (Not all photographers do.) They know the local retailers where you can get the better deals on photo equipment and more importantly, they know where the best photo ops are which allows us to provide you with a rotation of interesting places to shoot, throughout the year, whether indoors or outdoors, winter, spring, summer of fall. Sometimes one time of day to shoot is better than another and our DPA instructors keep us informed.

About Our Cleveland Photo Workshop Venues

Often, the DPA Instructors even have private access to various locales in the city where they live. Themes vary from street photography and dynamic architecture, to flowers and landscapes, as well as waterscapes, sunsets, lush scenery and everything in between.

During one month, you might be invited to rendezvous in the luxurious natural light streaming in to a religious venue via spectacular stained glass windows and the following month, it might be a small relatively unknown park with very special landscapes. This is why we offer a special ALUMNI Discount to people who attend more than one workshop.

Nationally, we organize these workshops to provide variety for the participants in each local market, but we could not do it without the expertise and connections provided by the DPA instructors in each of those markets.

Phone the national headquarters of Digital Photo Academy at 1 877 372 2231 but know that each of the Digital Photo Academy markets includes a local office. In Cleveland, that office is at:

  1. Thank you so much for the images, which are wonderful, and for a terrific class yesterday. Your knowledge is vast and you communicate it so easily and understandably. I learned so much and enjoyed every minute. How very lucky for me that I got to be your solo student yesterday. I feel ready to venture beyond auto mode and preprogrammed scenes! Let me know when you’re giving any other classes. I will be there. Many thanks.

  2. It went very well, thank you! Tom was a great instructor. I look forward to applying the skills I learned. I will be sure to send some good shots (when I get them).

    -Aric

  3. Amazing time and experience. They also showed me a few pro tips that really help. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to up their game at photography, and spend some time at some proven great sites to shoot!

  4. “Good morning Michael! Thank you so much for the class yesterday! Your patience, thoroughness, and professionalism are outstanding! I learned more in this class than in a previous two classes combined I had taken the past two years!!

    Thanks again.”

    -Cheryl Neal

  5. “I had a great time yesterday taking pictures at the University Circle and discussing with you about composition and post processing. Composing shots with a broad viewpoint has always been my problem area, and I believe I have learned quite a few things that would help me going forward. The time you spent on Lightroom was also very valuable and I have tried to utilize those tools while post processing the shots I took yesterday.”

    – Soumen Bhattacharya

  6. “Alex, this class was fantastic. It rivaled any of the workshops I recently took at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre. For example, many of the teachers there placed an emphasis on impressing the students. You on the other hand, put the emphasis on explaining and teaching. I really learned a lot from you.”

    – Ernie Pisciotti

  7. “I was in your sports photography session two weeks ago that went to Gymnastics World. I really learned a ton from your session. I mean an absolute ton!”

    – Mike Murray

  8. “I really enjoyed the class I took with Jeff Bishop last Sunday at Tower city. I learned some new information along with getting to take pictures at a great place. I plan on taking some additional classes in the future.
Here are some of the shots I took that day.”

    -Kristy Begovich

  9. ” I have never shot in manual before, this was my first time. All of us in the class were beginner and Jeff did a great job of slowing down and making sure we understood the basics before jumping into things… I learned a lot! ”

    -Ashley Frasher

  10. ” My first class with DPA, and I learned a lot from Jeff!”

    -Lindsey Marrero

  11. “Great class with Jeff Bishop at the CLE Metroparks Zoo!”

    -Mary Carol

  12. “Thanks, Jeff. We enjoyed the class. In case new York wants proof you were teaching, here is a picture!”

    -George

  13. “The class was great! I think that my husband and I were somewhere in the middle of the group when it came to photography. You did an outstanding job of meeting the needs of everyone in the group, which must have been quite a challenge since this was an extremely diverse group. I learned a lot – and my biggest take away…..Don’t pack up and leave seconds after the sun goes down at sunset. The sky just lights up for those 20 minutes following sunset, and I have missed it all these years, especially at the beach!!!! So many wasted opportunities! Also, I didn’t know that the histogram existed, and how helpful that is! Even though I am usually technologically challenged, you made many of the technical aspects of camera functions quite understandable. Your class has made me excited to keep learning.”

    – Michelle Fox

  14. “Thanks for teaching this class, I really enjoyed it. Here are a few of my favorite shots that I captured.”

    – Matt Knott

  15. “This was my first Composition in the Field Photography class. I never heard of DPA until my daughter saw a Groupon for the class and asked me to go with her to the class. I am glad I went. We attended the Composition in Field class at the Westside Market in Cleveland Ohio. The DPA instructor was Jeff Bishop. I enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about taking pictures in a low light environment. We will be attending another session with Jeff in July.”

    – Debbie

  16. “I had a great experience with Jeff Bishop and the 12 other students in our composition class on Saturday (June 16) at the Cleveland West Side Market. I am fairly comfortable with composition in general but I learned some other things that were very valuable to me. One was the experience of shooting in low light on the fly and the difficulties it brings, and the other was some great advice from Jeff about photographing people candidly or with their permission. Jeff said to try to feel out the individual, see if they are smiling and might be approachable..if not move on. This was the first time I had ever asked a complete stranger if I could photograph them. I asked approximately 13 people, only two declined and the rest said yes! It was a great confidence boost and I will take this with me the next time(s) I am in this situation:)”

    – Bryan Szucs

  17. “Hi Alex, just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed your workshop. We really appreciated the individual attention. You are an excellent instructor and passionate about your work. Who else would have given us an extra hour of instruction. I was so excited I took these on the way home.”

    – Ken Teitlebaum

  18. “I think your class was great and just to prove it I had some more fun with our Christmas Cactus and got a much improved result. Looking forward to more workshops.”

    – David Sinclair

  19. “Thank you again for Saturday… it was a great class! I bought a book to help me grasp the concepts even more. I should’ve asked your recommendation for a book but so far this one seems pretty good. At this point I think I would like to take the intermediate class… as I went to take a few pictures yesterday, I’m still struggling with the basics. Let’s stay in touch… I’ll keep my eye on the course schedule. Thanks again.”

    – Erin Pierce

  20. “Thanks for the sensational day. I am committed to going raw! Hope there will be more chances to get to learn from you, since you do so well to adapt to the level of need before you.”

    – Pat Cornelius

  21. “Hi Alex, I enjoyed your Intermediate photo workshop very much. I received a great deal to think about as well as inspiration to develop more skills with Photoshop (I recently got access to the CS2 version). I am interested in your Advanced class–perhaps in the Fall.

The attached pics show off the present level of my selection skills using the “magic extractor” tools of Elements 5. The Quick Fix feature makes this pretty simple. I also used “layers” to create the background.”

    – Harold Kaiman

  22. “Thanks for a great class yesterday. I will post a couple of my pictures sometime next week as I am going to be out of town the rest of this week.

I went outside today around 5:30 and did some shooting on my wife’s flowers and experimented with fill flash and other things learned yesterday.

Trying to make sure I shoot something everyday to keep honing the skills.

    Thanks again.”

    – Dick Beery

  23. “Alex – Just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful class on Sunday. Learned a lot, just hope I can retain some of it! As an aside, when we were trying to get my flash to work as it was supposed to in the studio, I reset all the defaults. What I neglected to do was reset the camera to RAW, so all of my outside photos were in normal JPEG. They still turned out fine and actually have a few I’m quite happy with. I have reset the camera now and have been shooting in RAW since then. Again, thanks for sharing your expertise, you are a terrific teacher. Best of luck, hope to cross paths again.”

    – Mark Hardymon

  24. “Good morning Alex. Thank you again for your time (and patience!) yesterday teaching us all about our cameras. I truly enjoyed the class. Now I just have to find the time to play around with it and get to where these things come to me w/out thinking! Good luck with that, right?

Have a great day and thanks again; I truly enjoyed the class.”

    – Amanda Clancy
